Background:
The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) performs its work in accordance with professional standards including the Principles and Standards for Offices of Inspector General and Government Auditing Standards. These standards require the efficient and effective use of resources as well as keeping appropriate officials informed of OIG activities. Since adoption of the FY 2027 Work Plan on June 23, 2026, the OIG identified an additional area presenting elevated risk and oversight significance. The proposed amendment adds one new project to the work plan. Bond-related items are allowable to the extent permitted by law.
Expected Outcomes:
With Board approval of this amendment, the OIG will allocate resources necessary to perform the engagement within the OIG's budget and staffing authority.
Board Options and Consequences:
If the Board does not approve this item, the OIG will be unable to address new and/or elevated risks to the District in a timely manner.
If the Board approves this item, the OIG will allocate the necessary resources to address identified and emerging risk areas and will continue to conduct its oversight activities in accordance with applicable professional standards and the OIG Charter.
Policy Implications:
The OIG Charter requires the Inspector General to present an annual work plan for the Board of Education’s review and approval.
