Approve the renewal petition for Ánimo Watts College Preparatory Academy (“Charter School”), a Start-Up Independent charter school, located in Board District 7 and Region South, for a term of five (5) years, beginning July 1, 2027, until June 30, 2032, to serve up to 575 students in grades 9-12 in each year of the charter term. The recommendation for approval is based on the information set forth in the attached Staff Assessment and Recommendation Report.

Background:
Ánimo Watts College Preparatory Academy is a 9-12 school currently serving 554 students on a private facility at 12628 Avalon Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90061 in Board District 7 and Region South. Ánimo Watts College Preparatory Academy was originally approved by the LAUSD Board of Education on March 7, 2006. On December 8, 2020, the charter school was renewed for a five-year term to serve 575 students in grades 9-12. Pursuant to Education Code section 47607.4, all charter schools whose term expires on or between January 1, 2022, and June 30, 2025, inclusive, shall have their term extended by two years, and all charter schools whose term expires on or between January 1, 2024, and June 30, 2027, inclusive, shall have their term extended by one additional year. Thus, by operation of law, the charter term for Ánimo Watts College Preparatory Academy expires June 30, 2027.
